Personal Turmoil and Humour

The album was born from a phase of transition. All three sisters found themselves single, and the music captures that strange in-between place where you're relieved to be free, but not quite ready to move on.

The lyrics detail departures and goodbyes. The sisters desire love, but not the specific love they've got. You can hear them working out in real life who they are becoming.

"That's a perfect way of putting it, yes," says Danielle. "I Quit is kind of like a slogan. You have to make an effort in shutting out the criticism and saying, 'I don't give what people think'."

Refinement of Music

That developed resilience demanded a fresh approach – more organic and immediate than any of the music the band had done before.

For Danielle, who worked on producing the album, that was founded on the percussion.

"Drums are such a specific thing, and I am so passionate about it," she says.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the title of our book," jokes Alana. "Our motto is, our albums cannot begin until we find the perfect drum sound."

Anecdotes and Collective Laughter

The band's honesty fueled the album's rollout, where the sisters disclosed some of their personal tales.

One man ended things with Este over a health consideration. Alana recalled a story of flying to spend New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a high five at midnight.

"When you're going through these breakups, you just feel like there's no hope," explains Alana. "So to be able to laugh at those stories and hear others tell you wilder stories, it's incredible."

A Secure Future

One can easily sense a evolution in the band. These days, Haim are more assured of their standing in the music world.

They're festival headliners, with successful albums and an global fan base.

But Haim will consistently be their primary priority.

"We have been playing music since I was a young child," shares Alana. "It's like no other path that we were supposed to do. And I'm really thankful we've made it and we're still going strong."
