Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then settled his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the group access areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Questers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
